Your thoughtfulness suggests you're not...Vicky,
Your thoughtfulness suggests you're not the gestapo-type. And I can accept no thanks, provocation for the reminder that practice and play require the trust of thoughtful teachers---rather than the intimidation of the warden--- being the sole responsibility of Brian. Just today, I responded to student writing in a way that would have the student hear "correctness," without feeling I was "teaching at" her. Perhaps Brian will see your kind words. Thank you.
JerryJerry Mastershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02434978785014432120noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-542676829276985243.post-28343200251720776262012-05-12T20:48:26.353-04:002012-05-12T20:48:26.353-04:00To Jerry, I just realized you are referring to me...To Jerry, I just realized you are referring to me as a member of the literacy gestapo. I have rules to follow and try to get students classified with special needs to walk the line when they cannot or will not. The public school "warden" has made us second guess our desire to teach with this teacher evaluation "machete" hanging over our heads. I want my students to enjoy learning as I do, but I just need to learn how they learn and help them "practice and play" through their disabilities. Thanks for enlightening me.

VickyVickynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-542676829276985243.post-57131485316890260612012-05-05T12:11:37.010-04:002012-05-05T12:11:37.010-04:00Brian,

When teachers operate the work camps of a failed public school system, you get reluctant readers and writers.

And they will work, as your last paragraph mentions, but it will certainly be because they begin to trust the warden. It'll be awhile before they play. of course.

Great post-thank you for reminding your readers.

JerryJerry Mastershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02434978785014432120noreply@blogger.com
